Allison Post
Allison was born in New York City and spent much of her youth involved in music, dance, and the theatre arts. She began practicing yoga and exploring alternatives to western medicine as a result of a prolonged illness while in college. She found that these practices helped her find inner guidance and cultivate true health. Throughout her life she has been inspired to teach what she learns.
For over twenty years, Allison has studied, practiced, and taught Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory, Qi Gong and Taoist Meditation Practices, Thai Massage, Chi Nei Tsang, and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. She has also studied Acupuncture, Eastern and Western Herbology, Ayurveda, and Hypnotherapy. Allison has loved living and studying in England, France, and Thailand. She continues her explorations into the history and philosophy of Hinduism and Taoism, music, dance, and cultural anthropology.
Allison and Stephen helped open Miraval, Life in Balance, near Tucson, Arizona, now one of the top spas in the world. There, they created the Asian Bodywork Department, trained staff, and worked with guests. While at Miraval she and Stephen were inspired to write Unwinding the Belly to provide a non-technical and accessible introduction to the essence of breathing and self-healing.
Allison and Stephen missed the unique and inspiring community of the Bay Area and returned in 1998. Since then, Allison has been in private practice, mentoring other professionals in the healing arts, and teaching a variety of workshops to the general public.

Stephen Cavaliere
Stephen began his adult life by traveling and working to support himself in many rural locales in the U.S., including a two year homesteading experiment that included building a cabin with hand tools. He also worked in Florence, Italy for one year while studying the language and culture there.
He continued his university studies later in life, concentrating on South East Asian Studies and Early Church Monasticism. After taking a degree in History at UC Berkeley in 1991, Stephen studied Shiatsu in San Francisco and became a certified Asian Bodywork Massage Therapist in 1993. He has studied a wide variety of modalities in the U.S. and in Asia, including Chi Nei Tsang, Thai Massage, Reflexology, Qigong, and Craniosacral Therapy.
Stephen has worked in several well-known spas in both Arizona and San Francisco, and with his partner Allison Post, founded the Chi Nei Tsang Institute in Tucson, Arizona. The school provided comprehensive training for therapists in several forms of Asian bodywork; Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Internal Organ Therapy, and Foot Reflexology Massage. At the same time they created and implemented the Oriental Bodywork program at Miraval Life in Balance, in Catalina, AZ.
He maintains a private practice in Marin County. |
