About the Book
Overview
Unwinding the Belly: Healing with Gentle Touch introduces an
accessible and practical method to improve your overall physical health
by increasing your physical self-awareness. Unwinding consists of five
breathing and abdominal self-massage techniques that you can use to
reestablish a connection with your body and to guide yourself in the
healing journey. These techniques are presented in five clearly demarcated
phases. Each breathing exercise is paired with one or more abdominal
massage techniques. The massage techniques are surprisingly simple,
take only a few minutes to do, and require minimal physical coordination.
They are explained using illustrations and photos. (There are 27 line
drawings and 11 photographs.) It is a short, easy -to- handle book of
approximately 170 pages.
Unwinding the Belly is a self-help tool, helping you to take charge
of your own healing. Practicing Unwinding eases pain and discomfort
of your belly stemming from bad digestion and stress. With Unwinding,
you can achieve profound relaxation, ease digestive complaints, improve
metabolism, balance your emotions, improve overall mood, increase flexibility
and ease of movement, and, most importantly, tap into your intuitive
center. Getting in touch with this body-based intuition is the goal
of Unwinding, and such connection, rather than any outside method or
modality, will guide you in your healing. This compassionate approach
to your own belly is the guiding philosophy of Unwinding the Belly,
and is consistently restated throughout the book.

Reviews
This gem of a book contains many of the fundamental techniques of esoteric
Taoist healing that are potentially difficult to explain. Yet despite
this, the authors explain things clearly, naturally, and entertainingly.
This information can be used by healing arts professionals and anyone
interested in getting in touch with the principles and basic practices
of holistic health.

To heal is to make whole. This book offers us a vision and practice
of healing as wholeness. Allison and Stephen understand the power of
the universal contemplative principles of intention, awareness, and
love. They teach us that healing asks our wholehearted participation:
body, heart, and mind. Their simple and direct guidance illuminates
the possibility of reclaiming our health and healing.

I have waited years for a book like this to refer to my clients, friends,
and students. We are an undereducated populace in regards to human anatomy,
physiology, touch, and how to care for ourselves. This book is about
our vitality and wellness. Drawn from years of study and experiential
application, Allison Post and Stephen Cavaliere offer a knowledgeable,
simple, practical, and inspirational hands-on belly guide for all of
us to enjoy. Excellent!
-Lucy Rush, C.M.T., Massage Therapy Instructor
Unwinding the Belly is a straightforward approach to taking charge of
one's own health and well being. It is a wonderful resource and guide
and I recommend it to anyone interested in taking better care of him
or herself and creating positive change.
